THE GOLD BAR
WAY BACK IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THERE WAS A SMALL $.25 goodie that EVERYONE would go crazy for. It was the Gold Bar, of course. And it was only sold on Wednesdays at my school. Let me explain if you don’t recall the Gold Bar or if you’ve never had one.
It’s similar to a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup but in a bar style. There’s a peanut butter mixture on the bottom, and on top, there’s a thin layer of chocolate. It was also served cold and individually wrapped, adding to the deliciousness. (Isn’t it strange how you remember things?)
So, before my father retired, I got the idea to ask him if he might get the recipe from a school cafeteria lady, WHICH HE DID! However, the whole recipe is grammatically written and includes a chocolate emulsifier (?? ), making the APS Goldbar almost impossible to duplicate.
So, like any other desperate Gold Bar enthusiast, I looked up the ingredient list on Google, which led me to this recipe. The general flavour is there, even though it calls for graham crackers instead of rice crispies. And I’m not forced to utilise math conversions I can’t recall for the life of me:)
