Creamy Cabbage and Sausage Casserole Recipe



  1. 3/4 lb. sausage (any variety)
  2. 5 cups of finely chopped cabbage
  3. 1/3 cup of chopped onion
  4. 3/4 cup sour cream
  5. 3/4 cup of cheddar cheese, shredded
  6. Salt, 1/8 teaspoon
  7. black pepper, 1/8 teaspoon
  8. 1 cup soft breadcrumbs
  9. 1 melted tablespoon each of butter and margarine


  • Sausage and onion should be cooked over medium-high heat until the sausage is browned.
  • Sausage and onions should be drained of fat.
  • Add the cabbage and stir.
  • Cook, covered, for about 10 minutes at medium heat, tossing frequently, until the cabbage is crisp and tender.
  • Any extra liquid in the pan should be drained.
  • Add cheese, sour cream, salt, and pepper after stirring.
  • Combine bread crumbs and melted butter or margarine in a separate bowl.
  • Over the sausage mixture, sprinkle.
  • Uncovered, bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
