How Do You Defrost A Fridge Freezer Without Turning It Off?
If your freezer experiences strong ice buildup, defrost it to restore the amount of space available inside. Even if your freezer isn’t full of ice, defrosting improves its energy efficiency and also increases its performance. With certain defrosting methods, turn off the freezer to remove ice build-up. If you prefer, defrost it without turning off the unit.
Step 1
Open the freezer, remove all items and transfer them to the fridge.
Step 2
Cover the floor directly below and in front of the freezer with thick bath towels. If necessary, slide a towel in front of the freezer door to keep it open. This allows heat from the room to enter the freezer, which will help melt the ice.
Step 3
Plug in a hand dryer, turn it on and point it toward the ice in the freezer. Be careful not to let ice or water touch the dryer. Pick up the broken chunks of ice with a cloth and place them in the kitchen sink.
Step 4
Dampen a clean cloth with water and wipe down the walls of the freezer after the ice has melted. Remove the towels from the floor and use a mop to clean the water on the floor.
Step 5
Close the freezer door and wait about 15 minutes for the freezer temperature to drop. Transfer the food from the fridge to the freezer.
